Freeport announces first week practice schedule

Freeport High will hold its Preseason Information Night Thursday, Aug. 9 at 7 p.m. and fall preseason practices get underway Monday, Aug. 13. Boys’ soccer begins at 8 a.m., on the high school field. Girls’ soccer goes from 8 a.m. to noon, also on the high school field. Field hockey begins at 8 a.m., at the field hockey field. Cross country meets at 5 p.m., on the school’s front lawn. Golf meets at 3:30 p.m., at Toddy Brook. Cheering begins at 8:30 a.m., on the front lawn. Football goes from 8 to 10:30 a.m. and from 4 to 6:30 p.m., at the Pownal Road Rec Field.

New corporate race upcoming

Harvard Pilgrim Health Care will hold the first annual Harvard Pilgrim 5K Portland Corporate Road Race Thursday, Aug. 16 at 6:15 p.m., at Payson Park. Local companies are encouraged to field teams of employees. Individual runners and walkers are also welcome to participate in the 3.1-mile event. FMI, harvardpilgrim5k.com/Portland.

Soccer official course

The Western Maine Board of Approved Soccer Officials, which provides officials too schools in York and Cumberland Counties, is conducting a basic soccer officials’ course Aug. 5, 8, 12, 15, 19 and 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Aug. 18 at a time to be announced at the Gorham Municipal Center.
